Principles of lightning protection installation

WHAT ARE THE PRINCIPLES OF IMPLEMENTING LIGHTNING PROTECTION?

o conductors constituting uninsulated horizontal leaks should be laid with the following distances from the roof surface:
– at least 40 cm for flammable coverings (słomiane, gonty),
– at least 30 cm – with hardly inflammable covers (papa),
– at least 2 cm – with non-flammable coverings (plate, eternit, tile);

o supports made of insulating materials may be used to ensure sufficient spacing of air terminals from the roof covering (e.g. impregnated wood, synthetic resins, unreinforced concrete, etc.);
o jumps should be carried out without sharp bends and kinks. The bending radius cannot be less than 10 cm; o zwody, the drain wires and earth electrodes should be connected with screw connections, which should be protected against corrosion by painting with a protective paint;

o the drainage pipes should be led on the outer walls of the house at a distance of not less than 2 cm. When installing cables on supports, the distance between the supports must not be greater than 1,5 m. You can install drainage pipes inside the bungalow, if security requires it (cottages with eaves brackets) or for aesthetic reasons. The cables should then be laid in the furrow 15 x 25 mm, covered with non-conductive material (e.g. vinidur tube);

o artificial earth electrodes can be made of galvanized wire with the smallest cross-sectional diameter 6 mm;

ATTENTION! The earth electrodes must not be protected against corrosion! Place the earth electrodes in the ground at a distance of not less than 1,5 m from the entrances to the cottage and at a minimum depth 0,5 m from the ground.

o the following natural earth electrodes should be used for grounding:

– metal water pipelines and covers of artesian wells located at a distance of not more than 10 m from the object,

– metal installations or their covers entering the cottage.

  1. Good morning, can I ask for a recipe, on the basis of which you write about the height of the wire over the wooden shingles? I am before laying the lightning rod and I want to do it correctly, but at the same time I would like to disfigure the roof as little as possible.

    • Unfortunately, this is not the norm, and not access to standards is paid. If I remember correctly, it is in the PN-EN standard 62305, but now I do not have access to it and I have no intention of buying anytime soon. The value for sheet metal seems strange to me. From what I remember, in the case of sheet metal, provided that the roof insulation is made of non-smoking materials, the lightning rod was connected to the sheet in a way that guaranteed the durability of the electrical connection..
