Lightning protection system on a shingled roof
HOW TO PERFORM A LIGHTNING LIGHTNING INSTALLATION ON A SHINGED ROOF?
If there are no trees in the immediate vicinity of the cottage, we are forced to run non-insulated lightning rods directly on the object. It will consist in installing low lightning rods on the upper edge of the roof (ridge) in this way, so that these bars are as little visible as possible. We try to achieve this by reducing their height and by increasing their spacing accordingly. The connection of air terminals and discharge wires is carried out directly on the wood inside the house – except at the very ends of the air terminals above the roof. Assuming on average, the spacing of the rods is approx 2,0 m we get the height of the air rod 15-50 cm above the shingle roof ridge. The rod terminal is made of galvanized steel with a cross-section diameter 10 (12) mm.
The figure shows the connection of the vertical air terminal with the horizontal cable with a screw clamp consisting of two M10 bolts and two washers. The feint itself is nailed to the rafters with staples. This drawing also shows an air terminal rod attached to the cross-section angle 40 x 40 x 4 mm with two M10 nuts. The angle bar is used here as a horizontal rail connecting air terminals.
In practice, we attach the feints in this way, that the air terminal rod without nuts is inserted from above through the hole in the ridge. Then, from the inside, screw the top nut to the highest top position and insert it into the angle of the angle.
Screw on the bottom nut from the bottom as far as it will go, then the top nut. After attaching the angle bar, bend the end of the spike, so that it is vertical. In the transitions of the rod through the wooden covering, it is advisable to seal the hole with silicone putty.
If the cottage has a concrete floor lying directly on the ground, it should be surrounded with an additional earth electrode and connected to the earth electrode system through the control terminal.
We make earth electrodes in accordance with the recommendations of Polish standards, paying attention to this, in order not to lead the earth electrodes from the side of the entrance to the house due to step voltages.
