Finishing exterior walls and cottage interiors

Covering the walls with boards

– we cover the wall of the house with asphalt roofing felt and mark the places, in which the columns of the wall frame will run (chalk). The facade boards will be nailed to the studs of the frame;

– we assume 15 mm of protrusion below the foundation line of the first line of boards and mark with a chalked string the location of the upper edge of the first line of boards. We repeat this operation after arranging the cover to the height 60 cm;

– the act of arranging the boards should be done carefully after that, that the line of boards running above the window is exactly in line with the window. The minimum overlap of nailed boards should be kept within the limits of 25 do 30 mm, depending on the width of the boards. The tab can be increased, to align the line of the window with the planks on its upper edge;

– all hinge attachments must be made in the center of the wall studs.

How to finish the corners of the walls?

There are two ways to finish the corners of your home:

– method I – miter joint. In this connection of the corner boards, a cut at an angle of 45 is used″. If the cut is carefully made, it gives a very nice optical impression;

– method II – board corner construction. It is the simplest form of corner finishing, consisting in tightly breaking two boards, yes, as the picture shows.

The finishing of the convex corner is slightly different than the finishing of the concave corner,where it is necessary to shape the slat (30 x 30 mm), to ensure good adhesion of the material to the wall.
