How to design a side slot cutout for a rafter?

– make a vertical line at the end of the beam by positioning the angle bar correctly (for 1/4 roof slope the touchdown points will be 15, 30);

– we measure back half the thickness of the rafters at right angles to the center line. The second line will be the cut line.

ATTENTION! Embedding the rafters on the cap and eaves repeat the solution for the main rafter.

Basket rafters

The valley rafter comes out at an angle from the cap beam of the house and reaches the ridge along the intersection line of two planes of the roof slopes. The basket rafter is in fact shortened main rafters. They are the same length on each 30 cm section of the length of the run as the main rafters and lie in the same plane, running from the ridge to the valley rafter.

Determining the length of the valley rafter
The operation is the same as for the edge rafter. The only difference is in the execution of the rafter base and the foot cut.

How to adjust the valley rafter?
– we calculate the length of the rafters and draw a vertical line;

– measure a distance equal to half the thickness of the rafters towards the overhang of the overhang at right angles to the vertical line and draw a vertical line;

– we draw these two vertical lines along the lower edges of the rafters;

– we draw the cutting lines for the cap stock in the same way as we have already done for the edge rafters. We then connect the outer points of the long vertical line with the midpoint and cut off the surfaces of the settlement (bird's beak).

How to cut the ends of the eaves rafters?
– we measure the exact length of the rafter eaves and mark it with a vertical line, we extend the end of the rafters (by a length equal to half the thickness of the rafters) at right angles to the vertical line and draw a second vertical line; o after joining the two outer points of the second vertical line with the mid-point of the original vertical line, we can cut off the end of the rafters, by making cuts along these lines.

How to make basket rafter legs?
The basket rafter is determined in the same way as the rafter legs already described. The run of the basket rafter is equal to the length measured from the roof valley rafter to the ridge.
