Repair of screed cracks

Repair of screed cracks.

We widen cracks in the screed with a disc, and then we can pour them with epoxy resin.

In the screed, which is not professionally worked or is too heavily loaded, through-out cracks appear. This is often due to empty spaces, in which the screed layer, which is only a few cm long, does not withstand the load. Loose screed parts shift as a result of cracks, whose edges you can even trip over. The best solution is to completely remove such damaged screed and replace it with a new one, or at least its loose parts. However, if the damage is not too severe, you can try to repair the surface of the screed with epoxy resin. The purpose of this method is to fill the vacuum and thus prevent new cracks from forming.
In addition, cracks must be filled, and the separated pieces of roofing board should be joined together. Epoxy resin is a liquid plastic consisting of two components mixed together during processing, which hardens over time. In its hardened state, it is indeed very durable and wear-resistant, but retains some flexibility. In places where the screed is damaged, in which, as predicted, are vain, Drill holes with a diameter of about 50 cm at intervals 15 mm. This is how he finds himself in a void in the screed, that the entire surface is tapped with a hammer. Empty spaces are clearly recognizable by a different noise. With the help of a cut-off grinder, with a stone grinding wheel, the crack widens significantly, only minor cracks are cut. Additionally, crosswise incisions are made, in about 20 cm intervals. They will then be used to better join the screed pieces with clamps. After the work is finished, the holes and cracks are blown out with compressed air, as stone dust would reduce the adhesion of the resin to the screed. Epoxy resin should be mixed according to the manufacturer's instructions on the band. It is poured over cracks and holes. In order not to obstruct the subsequent filling or laying of a new floor covering, attention should be paid to this, so that the epoxy resin does not overflow during pouring.
