Construction of walls and ceilings, part 2

Structural elements of the wall above the openings. attention: filling pieces make the entire thickness of this part of the structure equal to the thickness of the wall.

Exterior windows and door openings

The posts are reinforced (duplication), when a wall opening is planned. The horizontal logs usually have a hole 50 mm of thickness and 15, 20, 25 or 30 cm wide – depending on the dimensions of the window. Vertical reinforcement logs under the windows are then installed, when the weight of the window is too heavy for a single horizontal log of the opening with a cross-section of 50×100 mm.

ATTENTION! Spacer thick log 50 mm is placed between the two upper horizontal boards of the wall opening (thickness 2 x 25 mm), to achieve a total thickness of the boards equal to the thickness of the wall.

Ways of connecting the posts of the corner walls and the outer wall with the partition wall.

Construction of corners:
– we lift the wall and nail it through the bottom beam (foundation) to the joists, through the sub-floor;
– we use a spirit level, to check, whether the wall is vertical and we nail the braces temporarily to both sides of the wall;
– we test the verticality of the wall and nail the struts to maintain the vertical position;
– Use a spirit level to re-check the verticality of the wall corners and nail the struts;
– we put partition walls;
– after erecting the walls and partitions, nail the cap logs.

Installation of the outer wall cap.

ATTENTION! The longest walls are usually made at the earliest, because for their assembly you need the largest surface of the base.

Putting the wall on the under-floor platform.
