How to use trees for isolated lightning rods
HOW TO USE TREES FOR LIGHTNING PROTECTION ISOLATED?
When lightning strikes a tree standing next to the cottage, there is a danger of the so-called. a secondary spark from that tree to the cottage. To remedy this, we can do two things:
way I – the air terminal should be made of galvanized steel wire with a cross-sectional area 10 mm2, copper or aluminum cable. On one of the highest branches, we put a loop by twisting the wire and run the shortest path to the earthing outlet located at the tree trunk. For a better fixation of the cable, as well as for the load of the upper loop, we put on additional loops along the tree trunk;
method II – tree branches should be cut in this way, so that the distance between the cottage and tree branches is not less than 5,0 m. If you don't want to cut branches, then you have to set up additional jumpers on the nearby trees, connected to the earth electrodes buried in the ground.
I have a note regarding the material used: aluminium. US regulations allow copper and its alloys, but not aluminum.
